1. Greetings (3:45-3:50)
Unfortunately there were only 4 folks in attendance; we decided to do some work, recognizing we need a quorum moving forward.
2. Review the goal and define the task (3:50-4:00)
"Unzipping" the Mass. doc to 6 strands as per Technology Plan and gap analysis work. Congruent with conversation with larger COLT committee and content in the curriculum database.
What COLT comes up with might clarify the expectations/roles of buildings level Technology Committees
What is already happening in the district?
What is the relationship of the Curriculum Sub-Committee to the Curriculum Chairs?
Chairs informed the gap analysis
What is happening on the "ground level" in buildings?
Work from both ends - know what is happening and what "ought to be" happening
Membership - more comfort with the task
Need to balance the membership - require more people in Pre k-2 and 3-5 grade level strands
Go to departments and PLCs
The task requires a tool that makes sense for those contributing to the final product... (Barry made a visual in a Notebook file)
Create a document where people could easily add proficiencies
Barry is willing to make a rough copy of the ISTE standards in a SMART Notebook file
By 3/26 the goal is to link examples to the 6 ISTE strands
What product are we after? ISTE Standards and Performance Indicators at the center. Use ISTE's model student profiles. A finer level of specificity, like the Mass document. Standards and proficiencies need to spelled out a bit more for us in ICSD
3. Small groups to clarify what the standards and performance indicators look like at grade spans (Pk-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12). (4:00-4:50)
Massachusetts Technology Literacy Standards and Expectations The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council (MTLC) worked with a group of educators and business partners to revise our instructional technology standards. These standards incorporate the ISTE NETS and the Partnership for 21st Century Skills into three broad standards, which are broken down by grade level. The standards were approved by the Massachusetts Board of Education on April 29, 2008.
4. Whole group - document the work in groups; check congruency in "vertical" product; ensure that there is understanding of the work for those in other grade spans (4:50-5:00)
